Hamilton Hills was started in 1987 through the foresight and vision of Dr. Don Tyler, then senior pastor of Bethesda Baptist Church in Brownsburg, IN. All the demographic indicators pointed to Fishers as a community soon to explode with growth, and the vision became a reality on all counts.
The first pastor was Dave Huffman. Dave and his wife, Wanda, started Hamilton Hills with a few families from Bethesda and initially met in the community room at Conner Prairie Farm. They canvassed neighborhoods and reached out to include the many young families in the Fishers community. The church soon moved to the facilities of Heritage Christian School and remained there until the current property was purchased three years later and the initial building was constructed.
In 1993, Pastor Randy and Dale Gilmore and their family moved to Fishers from Michigan to assume the pastorate after Pastor Dave and Wanda moved to another ministry. As the church moved past the start-up phase and into a more expanded ministry, the congregation and associated ministries outgrew the original building and in 2000, embarked on a plan in order to facilitate the expanding ministry by constructing a new worship center and classroom building. The original auditorium was named "Don Tyler Hall" in honor of Dr. Tyler, his many years of faithful ministry in Brownsburg, and his vision to begin Hamilton Hills. The new building was occupied on August 25, 2002 with a dedication service on September 8, 2002. It was a great time to celebrate.
And now it is time to build once again. As the Lord has blessed us, we find ourselves in need of space. We are in the midst of our Something Greater Project, part of which includes the construction of a new children's ministries wing. We hope to have the new building available by July, 2008. There is much planning and work to do but it is an exciting time. We look forward to many years of fruitful ministry in Fishers and the surrounding metropolitan area and give all the glory to God for what He has accomplished.
